Summer 2010 Events at the Old North Wayne Schoolhouse
Sunday, July 11, 3 p.m. Second Annual Great Americana Sing-Along with veteran music educator Bonnie Wilder. Join us for a rousing afternoon of patriotic songs with a special salute to the 1940s, as well as some of America’s best-loved tunes. Public invited. Refreshments. Free.
Friday, July 16, 7 p.m. Contradance. Dance to the lively music of fiddle, piano, and accordion with Doug Protsik and friends, back by popular demand after last summer’s wildly fun evening. No experience necessary. Come and join the fun. Admission: $8. Children under 6 free. Refreshments.
Saturday, July 17, 7 - 8 p.m. Old Time Movie Night. Maine's classic film Dead River Rough Cut comes to the upstairs hall movie screen. Shot over four seasons in the remote backwoods of Maine, two renegade iconoclasts cut trees, trap beaver, trade isolation for independence. Their observations pull few punches. Refreshments. Free.
Saturday, Aug. 7, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Open Doors Day. Our annual open house. Tour the building. Learn about the history of the school. Photo and memorabilia exhibits. Videos of interviews with former students. Refreshments. Free.
Sunday, Aug. 8, 2:00 p.m. Annual Meeting of the Wayne Historical Society. Hear local writer-historian Ed Kallop discuss the historical roots of the Ben Hur stage curtain on exhibit in the upstairs hall of the schoolhouse. New members welcome also.
Friday, Aug. 20 – Sunday, Aug. 22. Make-A-Movie Weekend. Team up with your friends or family to make a movie together. Meet on Friday evening 6-7 p.m. to kick off the event and get your “mystery prop.” Return Saturday evening to share experiences, enjoy potluck and make-your-own sundaes. Saturday, Aug. 28, 6-8 p.m. Film Festival. The twelve teams from the Make-A-Movie Weekend will showcase their movies. Prizes. Open to the public. Free.
